Conservation Regulations Changes

As some of you know, I'm a member of the Falmouth Conservation Commission. One of the biggest issues the commission faces on a regular basis is the complexity of our regulations. So, we're starting off the new year with a series of meetings to clarify and revise those parts of our regulations that have been the most troublesome.

Some of these regulations, such as the section on buffers, are confusing and contradictory and have been the subject of some heated debates over the years. Others, like the option of mediation, are almost never used (I know of no examples myself), which led a few of us to ask why it is in there.

The regulations meetings are being held separately from our regular Wednesday night permit hearings. The next two will be on Friday, January 19 at 10am (the definition of "structure") and Thursday, February 1 at 9am (buffers) in the Civil Defense Room (lower level) at town hall. All regulations meetings are open to the public and are posted in town hall and advertised in the Falmouth Enterprise.

I understand that things like the definition of structure sound boring, but you'd be surprised at how much of an issue it creates when someone applies for a permit. If you ever thought a regulation was too strict, or needed to be more strict, now is your opportunity to make a change. I encourage you to participate, but if you cannot, let me know what you think and I'll pass it along.
