I learned today that the $4.1 million line item for "Furniture & Equipment and Technology" is an estimate. Basically, the school department wants a $4.1 million blank check so they can buy furniture, equipment and technology, but they have no idea what they're going to spend that money on.
At least that's what they tell me.
And then I learned that the original siding was on site, but couldn't be used, so we paid $90,000 dollars to send it back (probably shipping and restocking charges).
And I learned that an oil tank was going to be installed, but it was too big, so we got a smaller one. Then someone decided not to install any tanks. Who was responsible for this change? Was this a design flaw by the architect, or a change requested by Falmouth? How much time did that waste? What replaced the oil tanks? How much did the alternative cost? Did we get our money back for the tanks that weren't used?
Even if we did get a refund, I'm sure we had to pay shipping and restocking charges.
Then they changed the design of the locker rooms and decided not to use the showers that they originally planned to use. What was the cost of that design change?
And the sewer...I'm hearing now that like North Falmouth Elementary, apparently there was no problem with the septic system, so the cost of tying the high school into the sewer system was unnecessary.
Over the next month or so, I'll be working to get more details about these and other things that I've been hearing. This is just the beginning.

the brand new locker rooms... have a drop ceiling above the showers, I'm interested to see how that will pan out.
Brent, Why don't you check if the showers they are not going to use at FHS are still stored in the old woodshop at Lawrence. Paid for but will never be used
