Precinct 8 & 9 Meeting Follow-up

Aside from a review of the fall town meeting warrant, new precinct officers were elected at the joint Precinct 8 & 9 meeting this past Tuesday, November 6.

The meeting started with a discussion of how to manage the precincts. Because Precincts 8 & 9 have been meeting together, a suggestion was made to combine the administration of the two precincts, with a single captain, deputy captain and clerk for both. After a brief discussion, it was decided to maintain the precincts separately, although initially there weren't enough volunteers for officers.

The new officers for Precinct 8 are:

Captain: Randell Peat, RFP2718 at verizon dot net
Deputy Captain: Laurie Clayton, 508-563-6527, lclayton at cape dot com
Clerk: Helen Gordon, 508-563-2457

And for Precinct 9:

Captain: Brent Putnam, 508-540-5662, brent at falmouthlocal dot com
Deputy Captain: Rebecca Putnam, 508-540-5662, rputnam1970 at yahoo dot com
Clerk: Deborah Aguiar, 508-540-1314, daguiar at mbl dot com

Thanks to these folks for stepping up to the plate.

The review of the warrant was relatively uneventful, with articles 4 and 5 taking the most discussion. Article 4 is a new definition for a Senior Care Retirement District (SCRD), proposed by the Planning Board. Article 5, presented by Atria Senior Living Group, would rezone part the 9-hole Woodbriar golf course adjacent to Atria for a SCRD.

Finally, there was a discussion about the meeting location. Concerns were raised about the suitability of the Alchemy Farm's Common House. Room for parking and lighting were cited as detriments in spite of its central location to the two precincts. Those town meeting members present expressed a preference for using the Barnstable County Fairgrounds again in the future.
