A Modest Protest
This past Saturday (October 13), six signs appeared on the Reservoir bog off of John Parker Road. The signs included a frown face, the words "No farmer," the words "No berries," the words "No harvest," the words "No festival," and another frown face.
Sources tell us that neighborhood residents, Brian Handy and the Cranberry Harvest Festival board had nothing to do with these signs. They were placed by a Falmouth citizen who was upset over lack of a cranberry festival this year. This citizen noted that people were asking about the festival, so the signs served the dual purposes of a protest and to inform visitors to the bogs that there was no festival this year.
Earlier this year, Falmouth's Board of Selectmen failed to find a cranberry grower to farm the bogs after the town broke its contract with Brian Handy. The result was a lost harvest this year and cancellation of the annual Cranberry Harvest Festival which has been held on Reservoir bog.
