On Tuesday, May 8, the Great Harbors Neighborhood Association held a forum for the six candidates.
Questions about docks dominated the first part of the forum - Great Harbors had applied for a larger dock system which was rejected by the conservation commission. Because this is an ongoing issue (still unresolved) I can't go into detail, but I was part of the minority which voted in favor of the project.
The question of the cranberry bogs came up when one woman asked every candidate to state their positions.
I'd be remiss if I didn't note that Carey Murphy said, "I'm pro-bog." I'm not sure how he reconciles this statement with his famous quote, "It would be political suicide to ignore town meeting" and repeated votes to close the cranberry bogs, but I'm not convinced.
From my perspective, the highlight of the evening was when one person took me aside and suggested that I run for higher office.
"You're Reagan-esque" he said.
I admire Ronald Reagan, so it was quite a compliment.
